Examples of UI design in the app ReachOut

An app where you reach out

Problem

How can a digital service help persons with chronic illnesses to get an easier everyday life?

Background

March 11th 2020. The day where Denmark’s Prime Minister locked the country down. Corona virus had arrived. It was a challenging time. Especially for persons who have a chronic illness that effects the immune system and/or airways. Recommendation from health care professionals: Stay at home.

Insight

A life with chronic illness requires a lot of structure and planning – also during a pandemic. People in isolation dependent on family, friends or other helpful souls for grocery shopping, buy medicine etc. To make sure everything goes after plan, they update each other multiple times a week via phone calls and text messages. The conversations are both about practical and personal stuff ex. hobbies.

Solution

Need a hand or want to give a helping hand? Reach out – an app concept.

Pinpointing features

ReachOut connects helper and someone who needs help based on radius and task. Create tasks and find them on the page “My plan”. The calendar structure gives a weekly overview with information such as status, deadline, helper etc. When a helper accepts a task, open the chat and spread some good vibes. Then, it’s easier to reach the goal.

Two years ago, I started redesigning the app to improve user experience, skills and overall mood in recovery.
